Auto sector ripe for data breaches

A recent data leak exposed trade secrets from key manufacturers such as Ford, FCA and GM, writes Megan Lampinen

Data breaches show no signs of slowing, despite growing awareness of the problem. The 2018 Data Breach report from Verizon highlights more than 53,000 incidents and 2,200 breaches in the latest 12-month period. Worryingly, these attacks have begun to move into business critical systems, which encrypt file servers or databases where they can inflict more damage or command bigger ransom requests. Both vehicle and component manufacturers are among those frequently targeted.
