20 years of Euro NCAP: ‘We’re not a regulator’

Euro NCAP is a consumer body, not a regulator - yet the demonstrable impact of its work over 20 years illustrates the importance of independent crash test ratings. By Martin Kahl

Before 1997, all European consumers knew about the safety of the cars they were buying was from the information provided by the vehicle manufacturer. There was no independent benchmark for vehicle safety and the way their cars would perform in a crash.
