Zero-mileage used car fraud causes China car subsidy pause

Dealers engaging in fraudulent activity are being blamed for funds running out, with state media calling for stricter enforcement of rules. By Stewart Burnett

At least six Chinese cities have suspended car trade-in subsidies in June due to funding shortfalls and ongoing widespread fraud regarding “zero-mileage used cars”. Cities including Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Shenyang and Chongqing all halted programmes offering up to CN¥20,000 (US$2,800) toward new vehicle purchases.
