Flexible seating challenges traditional safety systems

Life on board an autonomous vehicle (AV) could be very different for drivers and passengers. As vehicles take over much, or all, of the driving responsibility, occupants will have greater freedom to perform other tasks. This means they will also have more freedom to move about the vehicle. While today the seating position is limited to a forward facing and generally upright model, in the future all seats could swivel and fold back flat.
