Trump administration gets to grips with self-driving car guidance

The recently issued guidance document on self-driving cars will soon be modified to help speed up the deployment of safety technologies. By Michael Nash

In September 2016, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) published a guidance document in the hope of assisting the automotive industry with the safe testing and deployment of highly automated vehicles (HAVs). It was met with a mix of praise and scepticism, though most industry experts suggested that it would help the US lead the way with the development of self-driving vehicle tech.

However, the guidance document is now under the microscope of US officials, and will be subject to change.
