New Year rings in with lowest US gas prices since 2009

An abundance of crude oil could help US drivers save billions in 2016

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price of gasoline in 2015 was US$2.40 per gallon, about US$0.94 per gallon less than in 2014. This marked one of the cheapest annual averages during the past ten years, second only to prices in 2009.

In comparison to 2014, US drivers saved around US$115bn on gasoline during 2015, and AAA believes that “market fundamentals are positioned” to support further savings in 2016.

Speaking to Automotive World, Michael Green, Manager of Public Relations at AAA, discusses the implications of current gas prices and outlines his predictions for 2016.
