As part of the Clean Air Act (CAA), the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets national ambient air quality standards for pollutants that are considered to be harmful to public health and the environment. After releasing the latest update to the regulations on 1 October 2015, California’s government has actively expressed its support, but observes that the amendment is similar to standards that the state had in place ten years ago.
