Magna International Inc. celebrates its 500,000th MINI vehicle produced at its Magna Steyr assembly facility in Graz, Austria. This milestone has been achieved just five years after Magna Steyr launched the first MINI for the BMW Group.
In 2010, Magna Steyr started producing the MINI Countryman followed by the sporty coupé-version, the MINI Paceman in 2012. In addition to the contract manufacturing for the MINI, Magna worked with the BMW Group as a development partner and produced five special vehicle editions and a series of smaller special editions of the two MINI models.
Over the past five years, Magna has received numerous recognition awards for MINI production in high quality, performance and manufacturing excellence.
The strategic partnership between Magna and the BMW Group began in 2001, then in 2003, Magna started the production of the BMW X3. Although the contract for the production of the MINI Countryman and the MINI Paceman will come to an end in 2016, the BMW Group has awarded Magna Steyr a new contract for future vehicles with production to start in 2017.
“This achievement represents not only a production milestone but serves as a reflection of the trust our customer, the BMW Group, has in our ability to contract manufacture their vehicles. This also indicates the commitment of our employees and their dedication to delivering a high-quality assembled vehicles that our customer expects,” said Günther Apfalter, President Magna Europe & Magna Steyr.
