Stainless steel becomes a contender for structural parts

Developments in stainless steel mean it can now be considered for structural automotive applications

Amongst the slew of materials available to vehicle manufacturers, including aluminium, carbon fibre composites, plastics and varying strengths of steels is stainless steel. To date, its use in automotive applications has been predominantly in areas such as wipers, brackets, tubing, springs, clamps, fasteners, sensors, exhaust systems and airbag assemblies.
