But there are already cars that can drive as far as required, as fast as required, so why are alternative powertrains becoming so important? Automotive World’s Megatrends USA 2014 conference, held on 18 March in Dearborn, Michigan, saw leading executives discuss fuel economy and emissions reduction, emission standards, engine downsizing, weight reduction, and technology developments in ICE and alternative powertrain technology. Stream 4 of the Fuel Economy & Emissions Reduction panel was moderated by Edward Hanawalt, Principal Consultant, Frost & Sullivan, who spoke about the 2014 Global Powertrain Outlook. The session consisted of other speakers including John German, Senior Fellow, International Council for Clean Transportation (ICCT) and Michael Ayres, Chief Operating Officer, Dearman.
