Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) is taking steps to bolster its cockpit electronics solutions in support of emerging vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure technology (collectively known as V2X).
At this year’s Electronica in Munich, Germany, Visteon presented an application-ready solution to address V2X communication needs in the U.S. and Europe. These solutions reflect Visteon’s proven expertise in driver information display integration, human-machine interaction (HMI) design and V2X technology.
V2X technology offers the potential for significant improvements in driver awareness including collision, hazardous road and curve speed warnings and traffic flow information – and is considered a precursor to autonomous driving.
Visteon is positioning itself to support V2X through both homegrown technology solutions and strategic partnerships. Visteon has established relationships with leading industry experts, including NXP Semiconductors and Cohda Wireless, which provided the RoadLINK™ chipset with proprietary embedded signal processing firmware to optimize V2X performance in a mobile environment.
“Our robust vehicle systems acumen, along with our solid business relationships and industry affiliations, position Visteon for growth in this exciting technology,” said Mark Zeinstra, director, connected services.
Visteon has been researching and developing V2X technology for a number of years to meet the unique needs of a global marketplace. Visteon is a supplier to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Safety Pilot Model Deployment in Ann Arbor, Mich., and recently joined the Car-2-Car Communication Consortium.
