MANN+HUMMEL, development partner and series supplier to the international automotive and mechanical engineering industries, is supplying the Siemens Charger diesel-electric locomotive with the largest cyclone preseparator ever built by the company. The preseparator used for the filtration of the intake air to the engine compartment is designed to handle a volume flow of 32,400 m³/h, has 664 cyclone cells and weighs 70 kg. The cyclone preseparator achieves a separation efficiency of 99.5%. It is particularly suitable for operations in extremely dusty environments. The cyclone technology provides a highly efficient separation solution which is almost maintenence-free and stands for high machine availability. Low differential pressure also offers economic advantages through energy savings and lower investment costs for the fan in the ventilation system.

The Siemens Charger was developed for the North American market and is manufactured in Sacramento, California. The 3,300 kW locomotive is used for passenger services.  The model is derived from the European Siemens Vectron, where MANN+HUMMEL already supplies the cyclone preseparator. Siemens diesel-electric locomotives have been proven under the most varied operating conditions and in different applications around the world.
