Key getaway route gets rapid chargers in time for the summer rush

Electric car drivers heading to the south west on their summer holidays have had a boost.

One of the UK’s leaders in rapid charge, InstaVolt, has installed two rapid chargers at Starbucks on the A31 Dorchester Road at Corfe Mullen. With the location being a key part of the route to the south west, InstaVolt says it’s expecting the chargers to act as a vital lifeline for holidaymakers driving electric cars.

The 50kWh rapid stations can get drivers charged up and back on the road in the time it takes to enjoy a coffee and bite to eat at the Starbucks next door. They have been strategically placed so drivers can make use of the nearby facilities while charging.

Unlike many other charging stations, all of InstaVolt’s are available for EV drivers to use on a pay-as-you-go basis with no subscription, card or membership needed. Drivers simply tap their contactless credit or debit card to pay. They can even use their smart watch or phone to pay if it’s set up for contactless payments.

InstaVolt’s chief financial officer Adrian Keen said: “It’s fair to say that, at the moment, a long summer road trip takes a bit more planning when you’re in an electric car compared to a petrol or diesel vehicle. Ensuring you have enough charge to get to your destination is vital for a stress-free trip and that’s why companies like ours are working hard and fast to get as many rapid chargers installed in public places as possible.

“We’re thrilled to have done just that in Dorset with two rapid chargers at Starbucks.”

The move to install more rapid chargers in Dorset follows national trends in charging infrastructure.

According to Go Ultra Low, the total number of charging point connectors for electric vehicles currently stands at close to 24,001, at over 8,600 locations, a rise of more than 140% within the last five years.

The UK also has more than 1,700 rapid chargers, making it one of Europe’s largest rapid charging networks.
