The innovative Ford Puma, market-leading Transit Custom and tough Ford Ranger have been named the best Car, Van and Pick-up available by trusted experts Parkers.
Parkers.co.uk editor Keith Adams said: “Ford has hit the bullseye with its latest – and quite brilliant – Puma. Powered by a range of economical mild-hybrid EcoBoost petrol engines, the Puma delivers all the pep most drivers need while delivering excellent fuel economy.”
CJ Hubbard, Parkers’ van and pick-up editor noted that continuous updates to the Transit range – Britain’s top-selling van for 55 years – and the Ranger pick-up being suited to both professional and private buyers decided the two commercial vehicle accolades.
“Ford keeps on expanding the Custom’s appeal, with updates and the addition of new models to suit an even broader range of customers. From tough workhorse to plug-in hybrid to lifestyle accessory – and everything in between – this van now has so many talents it was the clear choice for Van of the Year,” said Hubbard.
“With Ford Ranger’s great payload capability and a vast options list, it runs the gamut from basic working vehicle to luxurious lifestyle chariot extremely convincingly. Refinement is truly exceptional for a pick-up. You can cover long-distances comfortably and build quality is strong.”
The 2008-2017 model Ford Fiesta is Parkers’ Used Car of the Year for the second year running, recognising the breadth of the small car’s range from economical mild-hybrid models to the performance Ford Fiesta ST – itself Parkers’ overall Car of the Year in 2019.
Lisa Brankin, acting managing director of Ford of Britain and Ireland, said: “With such a broad range of cars, vans and pick-ups on sale, we work hard to satisfy their drivers’ varied and extensive needs. Winning so many awards hard on the heels of the busy 70-plate launch month is much appreciated, and endorses great effort by Ford, and its dealers, to win and serve our customers.”
Also this month Autocar, Auto Express and News UK-owned outlets in The Sun, Sunday Times and Driving.co.uk declared their best vehicles featuring six Fords.
Autocar Britain’s Best Cars Awards
The newly launched Autocar Britain’s Best Cars Awards honoured the Fiesta, naming it Best Small Car.
“Although a slightly more reserved, mature design language was employed for this seventh-generation Fiesta, Ford made damn sure that it retained the lively, up-and-at-’em sense of dynamic character that has, for a long while now, marked out the Fiesta in a crowded field,” said Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw.
Auto Express New Car Awards
Ford’s winning commercial vehicles in Transit Custom and Ranger were also recognised by Auto Express as their Van and Pick-up of the Year respectively, with the Ford Kuga as pick of medium sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
The Ford Transit Custom was crowned Van of the Year, as a “veritable Swiss Army knife of a machine”, while “the Ford Ranger doesn’t simply top the charts, it dominates its category, and for very good reasons,” said Steve Fowler, Auto Express editor-in-chief, who welcomed the larger Kuga alongside Puma into the showroom.
“The third-generation Kuga is a fantastic return to form for Ford, backing up the introduction of its fun-feeling Puma with exactly what buyers in this mid-size class want from a crossover. It’s great to drive, comfortable and economical, but also serves up a spacious cabin and boot, while its SYNC infotainment system is among the best on the market,” he said.
News UK Motor Awards
There were twin awards for Ford from The Sun, Sunday Times and Driving.co.uk, with Ford Puma their Crossover of the Year and the Fiesta ST earning The Sun’s Legend Award – picked by readers.
“Two years ago we said the Fiesta ST was the best car, pound for pound, on the planet,” said The Sun’s motors editor Rob Gill. “Nothing has changed – and readers agreed, by picking Fiesta from a tough shortlist of icons from the last 30 years.”
