- Saltillo South Engine Plant becomes the third FCA Mexico plant to achieve World Class Manufacturing milestone
- WCM implementation has saved the Company more than $1 billion since June 2009
The FCA México Saltillo South Engine Plant (SSEP), located in Coahuila, Mexico, has been awarded bronze status for its results in implementing World Class Manufacturing (WCM), becoming the third facility in the country and the 10th in North America to achieve this milestone.
SSEP received the bronze designation five years after adopting the WCM operating system. The plant assembles the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, which is available in the Dodge Journey, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Durango, Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Chrysler Town & Country.
“Our customers’ satisfaction is due to the effort, commitment and motivation of the people who work at Saltillo Engine, which has been recognized in World Class Manufacturing, joining the Toluca Assembly Complex and Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant,” said Jorge Luis Lares, Vice President – Manufacturing, FCA México. “We will continue assembling products with the highest quality standards and keep working toward the best way to fulfill our clients’ needs.”
World Class Manufacturing is a methodology that focuses on eliminating waste, increasing productivity, and improving quality and safety in a systematic and organized way. WCM engages the workforce to provide and implement suggestions on how to improve their jobs and their plants. WCM was first implemented by Fiat in 2006 and introduced to Chrysler Group as part of the alliance between the two companies in June 2009. Since that time, the Company has saved more than $1.0 billion in controllable manufacturing costs as a result of the implementation of WCM.
In addition to SSEP, there are currently seven facilities that hold the WCM bronze designation. They are Toledo Assembly Complex (Ohio), Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant (Mex.), Trenton Engine Complex (Mich.), Warren Stamping (Mich.), Indiana Transmission Plant II (Ind.), Kokomo Transmission Plant (Ind.) and Toluca Assembly Plant (Mex.). Two FCA US facilities have earned silver rankings – Windsor Assembly (Ont.) and Dundee Engine (Mich.).
