Electrification in the commercial-vehicle sector
The number of electric cars on the world’s roads is growing continually, with fully and partially electric drives becoming increasingly popular in the commercial-vehicle and passenger-transportation sector. This is unsurprising as the advantages of electric drives can offer direct cost benefits. BRUSA Elektronik AG identified this trend early on, and is now also offering its proven components in 750-volt versions. BRUSA components have been proven a thousand times over and as a further development of these, the new 750-volt products are ideal for use in commercial vehicles and applications demanding very high output performance.
Same power with less copper
Increasing the voltage reduces the currents with the performance remaining the same. Lower currents lead to a reduction of cable thicknesses and bending radii. This will directly result in weight and material savings -expecially with commercial vehicles of a certain length such as trucks or busses. For electric cars the 300 to 400-volt range has established itself as the standard. Thanks to the advancement in semiconductor technology, a doubling of operating voltage is unproblematic.
Electromagnetic compatibility
While the doubling of the voltage to 750 volts offers advantages, it is a challenge to control increased electric fields. To achieve optimal electromagnetic compatibility, BRUSA Elektronik AG developed the resonant SoftSwing® topology which is already used in its 400-volt components. This proven soft commutation minimizes switching loss while ensuring optimal efficiency and EMC values are achieved. This technology is particularly advantageous at high voltages and will improve efficiency, weight, size and therefore reduce the costs of the total system.
The following products will also be available for 750-volt applications:
