The headlines may be full of new safety technology developments but it's not enough to slow the fatality rate. Preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council (NSC) in the US point to a 9% rise in motor vehicle deaths in the first half this year, that's 18% higher than two years ago at this time. A lot of the problem stems from the health of the US economy.
