Raising prices in US might be inescapable for Japan’s OEMs

Regardless of how they navigate the US import tariffs, multiple factors might force Japanese OEMs to raise vehicle prices. By Will Girling

Back in May 2025, Toyota Chief Financial Officer Yoichi Miyazaki told media and analysts that his company would not raise prices in the US “in the short term”. This turned out to be very short indeed: on 21 June, Kyodo reported that Toyota and Lexus models will become at least US$200 more expensive from July.
