Nothing can compete with hot-stamping, says Schuler

Schuler has opened a new hot-stamping research centre, and says the technology will stay competitive for the next ten years. By Xavier Boucherat

Hot-stamping, in which steel is hardened through heat-treatment to allow use of thinner sheets, has established itself as a vital lightweighting technique for some OEMs. However, for others, limitations still exist. Long process times mean that some plants, such as FCA Stamping Sterling Heights, opt in favour of cold-forming to achieve the mass output they require.
