No deal likely at EU-China summit, automotive is key issue

The 25th EU-China summit will be held over one day on 25 July, but progress on key trade issues like automotive isn’t expected. By Will Girling

Leaders from the EU and China will conduct the 25th summit of their countries’ 50-year bilateral relationship in Beijing on 25 July 2025. In a media briefing on 21 July, the non-profit Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) posited that discussions on trade will likely be strained, with automotive a key sticking point.
