NEC takes bioplastic developments from consumer electronics to car interiors

NEC has developed a non-edible-plant-based bioplastic ideal for durable yet ornamental materials and products, such as interior components for luxury cars. By Megan Lampinen

The automotive industry continues to make advances in biomaterials, gradually reducing its environmental impact through use of sustainable materials. Japanese supplier NEC has been investigating biomaterials for years but is only now starting to apply these efforts to the automotive space. Most recently it announced the development of a non-edible-plant-based bioplastic ideal for durable yet ornamental materials and products, such as interior components for luxury cars.
