ICCT’s John German: VW scandal “a complete shock”

Automotive World speaks to the ICCT's John German about the organisation's key role in uncovering the VW emissions scandal

In 2013, the International Clean Council on Transportation (ICCT) set up a team at West Virginia University (WVU) to test diesel car emissions. John German, Senior Fellow at the ICCT, was part of that team, which originally hoped to prove that diesel technology used in passenger vehicles across the US was clean. But, as he explains to Automotive World, this premise was quickly discredited.
