GM Orion plant switches production focus as EV growth stalls

GM’s Orion plant was the home of the Bolt EV and was due to make a new series of EVs following a US$4bn investment programme. By Ian Henry

In early 2022, General Motors announced it would invest US$4bn to convert the Orion plant in Michigan to make electric pick-ups using the GM Ultium platform. This plan was put on hold in 2023 as demand for electric vehicles (EVs) slowed. Now, GM has changed tack almost entirely.
