Diversification and onshoring will solve OEM chip shortages

OEMs have warned that the semiconductor crisis will persist long term, but the most secure solutions are also the most intensive. By Stewart Burnett

The semiconductor shortage has had a significant impact on the auto industry. Semiconductors are essential components of modern vehicles, used in infotainment systems, brake sensors and engine control units. A vehicle produced in 2023 may have on average between 1,400 and 1,500 chips, but in some cases up to 3,000.
