‘Diesel-gate’ Mk II – VW’s 2016 models under question

Volkswagen has admitted that its MY 2016 diesels include software that was not originally disclosed for EPA certification

VW’s Chief Executive Michael Horn testified in front of the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee on 8 October. During this hearing, the use of defeat devices in VW’s model year 2009 to 2015 four-cylinder diesels was discussed in detail, as the OEM had previously admitted that these models were affected.

But, what about the potential use of similar devices in MY 2016 vehicles? Rumours have been circulating following VW’s recent withdrawal of its application for US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for its 2016 models.
