Credits, not cars, behind Tesla’s Q3 profit

Tesla's long-awaited return to profit is well timed, coming just ahead of next month's shareholder vote on the SolarCity merger. By Megan Lampinen

After 13 consecutive quarterly losses Tesla has reported a profit of US$22m for the July-September period, marking its best quarter ever. This is only the second time the OEM has managed a quarter of net income.

"Tesla badly needed this positive outcome after 13 quarters of unprofitable results to reassure investors," commented Rebecca Lindland, Senior Analyst for Kelley Blue Book.
