Consumer choice is crucial to CAFE, says Auto Alliance

Improvements to the average fuel economy of passenger vehicles in the US are reliant on consumer preference, writes Michael Nash

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released two reports that suggest passenger vehicles are outperforming greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards while simultaneously achieving record-high fuel economy levels. However, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which represents 12 vehicle manufacturers in the US, is treating the reports with caution, and has warned of increasingly tough challenges on the horizon.
