Despite considerable improvements over the past few decades, air pollution remains number one on the list of health hazards in several megacities across Europe, according to the European Environment Agency (EEA). City dwellers are still exposed to significant levels of harmful greenhouse gases (GHGs) on a daily basis, resulting in high health care bills for governments and forcing OEMs and suppliers to continue heavy investment in cleaner engines.
