Like most of the automotive industry, Schaeffler, a powertrain components supplier, still sees plenty of life in the internal combustion engine (ICE). In fact, it expects the stand-alone ICE to be the dominant powertrain technology for at least the next decade, if not longer. But, like all good things, its glory days will come to an end, and that, says the supplier, is because the ICE has inherent weaknesses.
