Magna held an official opening ceremony on 25 October for its new plant in Craiova, Romania, its first in the country. The facility is operated by the Magna Exteriors and Interiors (MEI) unit and is located within Ford’s Craiova manufacturing facility. Magna’s Craiova unit will employ around 100 people making front and rear bumpers along with other exterior trim components for Ford. MEI Craiova will also provide injection moulding, painting and assembly services to Ford.

Ford started production at the Craiova facility in May this year with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Volume vehicle production followed a month later with the B-Max. The B-Max is built exclusively at the Romania plant. Ford also plans to introduce a second engine for Craiova – a 1.5-litre gasoline engine – in early 2013.

“This is proof that as our customers expand their manufacturing footprints around the world, we will be there to support them with world-class operations delivering our high-quality products,” commented Albert Lidauer, President Europe for Magna Exteriors and Interiors.
