Japan OEMs drop US prices as tariff talks go unresolved

The deadline for US import tariffs is now August, raising questions on how addressing Japan’s trade deficit will impact automotive. By Will Girling

The 9 July 2025 deadline for the US and Japan to reach a new trade agreement came and went. A 25% tariff will apply to imports of the latter’s goods from 1 August, but as the two countries use the delay for last-minute talks, automotive might be keeping them at an impasse.
