Mitsubishi fuel economy fix: spread could lead to ‘doomsday scenario’

The real problems for Mitsubishi would begin if fuel economy testing misconduct spreads to larger, more profitable vehicle types or to vehicles sold overseas. By Megan Lampinen and Michael Nash

Mitsubishi's confession that the fuel economy figures on some of its mini-vehicles in Japan were fudged caught everyone's attention, particularly in the wake of the VW defeat device scandal. When it comes to specifics, the two situations are more different than alike, but in spirit they could be twins and that's what has many industry watchers worried.
