Warnings emerge as China’s ‘copycat culture’ spurs counterfeit market

Automotive World speaks to Markus Scherer of Ipsos Business Consulting Hong Kong, on the risks of counterfeit products and the need for OEMs to take greater protective measures against copycats

New research from Ipsos Business Consulting warns that the risk from counterfeiters will rise as China's automotive component market is set to double by 2019. Driven by strong demand for new cars as well as the used vehicle segment, China's overall automotive components industry is forecast to expand by 20% a year over the next five years. However, the country's counterfeit automotive parts will grow right along with it.
