Supply chain problems due to flooding

The automotive sector in Saxony is starting to feel the effects of non-stop rain and flooding: as of Thursday’s early shift the Porsche plant in Leipzig will be halting production due to shortages in supply of Cayenne bodies from Bratislava. The freight trains are unable to get through the severely flood-affected region of the Czech Republic. The Leipzig plant itself is not affected by the floods.

“When production will be able to start up again will be decided dependent on how things develop with the supply chain logistics. The workers affected have been informed. Meanwhile, the Panamera pre-assembly line, for which the bodies are made in Hannover, is running normally,” explained Siegfried Bülow, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche Leipzig GmbH.

Every day at the Porsche site in Saxony around 450 vehicles come off the production line.
