Under the motto “Your Global Partner for Roof and Thermo Systems,” Webasto will present several novelties at the IAA in Frankfurt/Main from September 12 – 22, 2013 in Booth A15, Hall 8.0. Among them is the panorama roof of the future, which lets in a maximum amount of light, and heating systems for fuel, hybrid, and electric drives. An innovation focus at Webasto’s booth this year is the solar roof, which can be seen as an Eco Innovation in terms of its reduction of CO2 emissions from vehicles.

Webasto will present the technologies in various exhibits. The highlight is a show car exhibit featuring an extraordinarily large panorama roof with switchable glazing and ambient lighting as well as heating systems for all drive types. Visitors can also look forward to a Jaguar F-TYPE equipped with a Webasto fabric hood.

Solar roof as Eco Innovation to reduce CO2 emissions
In light of the legislation introduced by the EU and The European Council to reduce the CO2 emissions of new cars, innovative drive-independent technologies are becoming more and more important. So-called Eco Innovations can be used to cut vehicles’ CO2 emissions. Webasto, the market leader in solar roofs with more than 20 years of experience in development and production, has applied for approval of the solar roof as an Eco Innovation.

Panorama roofs: a maximum amount of air and transparency
With its panorama roof of the future, Webasto offers the people in the car a maximum amount of light and air. The opening of the roof begins right behind the windshield, extending over the entire width of the roof to the rear window. Switchable glazing and indirect lighting as well as numerous operational concepts round out the panorama roof of tomorrow.

Heating systems for all drive types
Webasto offers heating systems for all drive types. For fuel-driven automobiles, Webasto’s Thermo Top Evo parking heater warms up the interior, ensures that windows remain clear, and heats up the engine.

With hybrid and electric cars, the heat from the engine is not sufficient to warm up the interior. Webasto has solved this problem with an electric high-voltage heater. The water-heating device has an efficiency of up to 99% and converts electricity into heat with virtually no losses. This was made possible by so-called layer technology, which Webasto is now using in heating devices for the first time. Another highlight: The new heater does not contain rare earth elements or lead. As there has been no uniform battery voltage for electric vehicles to date, the device is conceived such that it can be utilized in areas between 250-450 V with no performance losses. All connections are attached to the front side, enabling fast and easy plug-and-play assembly. The Webasto HVH is developed for standard equipment and can be installed in all hybrid and electric vehicles.
