Continued growth in exports and production
Registrations of new passenger cars in Germany increased by 5 percent in September to 272,500 units, with new registrations of diesel cars climbing by a whole 8 percent. They account for around 47 percent of all new passenger car registrations. Year-to-date registrations of new cars have risen by 6 percent, reaching 2.4 million.
Incoming orders from Germany showed double-digit growth (13 percent) in September. In the first nine months of this year orders from domestic customers rose by 7 percent. Orders arriving from abroad this year are up 3 percent compared with the same period in 2014.
In September the German manufacturers exported 417,800 new passenger cars, which is an increase of 7 percent. Since January, exports have risen by 3 percent to just over 3.3 million units. Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), stressed, “The German passenger car market is continuing its positive trend, and the double-digit growth in order intake suggests good prospects. Our exports reflect the increasing demand in Western Europe.”
Spurred on by the growth in exports, the auto companies also produced more passenger cars in Germany in September. A total of 539,800 units rolled off the production lines, resulting in year-on-year growth of 3 percent. In the first nine months of the current year production rose by 2 percent to a good 4.3 million units.
