The mobility transition and the associated electromobility are a major challenge for the automotive industry. To be well equipped for this transformation process, the DRÄXLMAIER Group is investing in a new location in Leipzig, where high-voltage battery systems for a premium SUV will be manufactured in the future. The topping-out ceremony for the ultra-modern plant was celebrated today with the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony Michael Kretschmer, the First Mayor of the City of Leipzig Torsten Bonew and other guests from business and politics.

On the road in e-mobility for over ten years

With the new plant for the production of high-voltage battery systems, the DRÄXLMAIER Group is consistently implementing its electric mobility strategy. The company has been developing and manufacturing high-voltage battery systems for the premium automotive industry for over ten years. Since last year, DRÄXLMAIER has even been the first supplier to produce an 800-volt overall battery system for a purely electric sports car in Sachsenheim near Stuttgart. With the new plant in Leipzig, the expansion of production capacities for high-voltage battery systems is now being further advanced in order to support the increasing electrification of vehicle models. “We are convinced

Investment in e-mobility

A state-of-the-art production facility is being built at the new Saxon site, which is being built by Metawerk AG. “DRÄXLMAIER uses complex automation technology here for the highest product quality”, says Jan Reblin, COO of the DRÄXLMAIER Group.

The realization of the project is proceeding according to the project plan – also thanks to the excellent cooperation with the Saxony Economic Development Corporation. The goal is to be able to start producing high-voltage battery systems next year.

With the new battery plant, DRÄXLMAIER is strengthening its presence in Leipzig and has therefore made a conscious decision in favor of Saxony as a business location. DRÄXLMAIER has been present in Leipzig since 2004. The existing production plant produces interior systems and electrical systems for a premium sports car manufacturer. “At our new battery location we are creating numerous new jobs in an innovative work environment, for which we are now hiring highly qualified employees,” says Karsten Wilhelm, site manager of the new DRÄXLMAIER battery factory in Leipzig.

A clear commitment to Saxony as a business location”
Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer thanked him for his trust in Saxony
as a business location and at the same time emphasized: “The DRÄXLMAIER Group’s investment is a clear commitment to Saxony as a business location and to its highly qualified specialists. The new plant for high-voltage batteries creates modern jobs and strengthens the Leipzig automotive region. The decision underlines the innovation potential and the pioneering role of the Free State in electromobility. ”

Sustainable growth impulses for the region

Torsten Bonew, First Mayor and Minister for Finance of the City of Leipzig, emphasized: “In addition to the automobile manufacturers based in Leipzig, innovative suppliers such as the DRÄXLMAIER Group in particular ensure sustainable growth impulses in the region and contribute with investments in the E -Mobility helps to further strengthen the future viability of the region. ”

In addition to the know-how in the field of high-voltage battery systems, the DRÄXLMAIER Group has further expertise in the field of e-mobility and is thus shaping the individual mobility of tomorrow today.
