The BYD e6 electric crossover was chosen to lead the Thai royal celebration “Bike for Mom” – the largest bike fleet ride in the history of Thailand – at the celebration’s main event in Bangkok on August 16.

This bike riding event took place simultaneously in different provinces in Thailand. Even Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn was amongst the nearly 300,000 people who signed up for the ride. According to the event official website, this number is likely to set a new record for the largest bike fleet in the Guinness Book of Records.

There were two celebrations in Thailand on August 12: Queen Sirikit 83rd birthday and the country’s mother’s day. The “Bike for Mom” event was officially organized to celebrate the queen’s birthday, as well as encourage people to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle. Prior to the event, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, along with the Thai cabinet minister and another 3,000 civil servants participated the riding practice.

The BYD e6 was selected to lead the bike fleet on the event day because, as a pure electric vehicle, it goes perfectly with the event theme. This demonstrates the determination of the Thai administration as well as the royal family to develop and promote new energy vehicles. Hopefully, people will soon be seeing more BYD new energy vehicles running the street of Thailand.

BYD ranked on top of global new energy vehicle sales in June and July this year. The company’s electrified public transportation solutions – chiefly the K9 pure electric bus and the e6 pure electric taxi – have been running in over 150 cities in 36 countries worldwide. In March this year, Thailand’s Loxley Plc. went into partnership with BYD to launch an Electrified Transportation scheme and introduce the K9 bus and the e6 taxi in Thailand. Bus companies, government departments, car rental companies and hotels in Thailand are likely to purchase BYD new energy vehicles in the near future.
