Tariffs forecast to deal Toyota a US$9.5bn blow in FY2026

Despite the US-Japan trade deal and its strong North American presence, Toyota isn't shielded from significant tariff headwinds. By Will Girling

Toyota’s Q1 2025/26 report, published 7 August, forecast that US import tariffs will deal a JP¥1.4tr (US$9.5bn) blow to its FY2026 result. This figure assumes a 12.5% rate on Japanese automotive goods between August 2025 and March 2026, even though this is currently set at 15%, as well as the maintenance of 25% on Canadian and Mexican imports.
