The driverless car, like the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, remains one of those tantalising “jam tomorrow” technology breakthroughs. All the major OEMs are working on the idea, and some are bold enough to say they are almost ready to go to market, but a little matter called the Vienna Convention, which governs the safe operation of motor vehicles, stands in the way.
