JLR to embrace aluminium hot-forming

The premium manufacturer’s next generation of vehicles will use aluminium hot-forming techniques for added strength and ductility. By Xavier Boucherat

Of all OEMs, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has one of the longest-standing relationships with aluminium-intensive design – in fact, the first Land Rover was clad in aluminium, due to the post-war steel shortage. Research on the 2003 XJ, which adopted an all-aluminium body, began in 1997.
