Hitting future US fuel economy standards could prove tough for OEMs, particularly given the popularity of large vehicles like pick-ups across the country. Companies can keep designing and producing small, lightweight and fuel efficient models in the hope of meeting targets, but consumers may continue to choose larger, less efficient vehicles if the price of fuel remains low.
