GM lawsuit ‘another nail in the coffin for diesel’

A civil lawsuit recently filed against GM accuses the company of using illegal software to fix emissions, writes Michael Nash

Diesel has had a tough time since the Volkswagen emissions scandal broke in September 2015. Several OEMs have come under scrutiny and there are suggestions that the use of illegal defeat devices to fix emissions tests is widespread across the industry. Numerous offices have been raided by authorities, and various statements have been published protesting innocence.

In the latest shake up, General Motors has been accused of using software to fudge emissions test results. This comes from a lawsuit filed by Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro – a firm that specialises in consumer rights law and was involved in the VW emissions settlement.
