Contrary to recent hopes and expectations expressed by passenger car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, prejudice against diesel power in North America is clearly alive and well. A bill has been entered for debate by District of Columbia City Council that would, almost unbelievably, ban the registration of all new diesel-powered road vehicles in the US capital, from 2018.
