Chinese electric vehicle (EV) battery giant CATL has ordered a three-month suspension of operations at a major lithium mine in Jiangxi province, sending automotive supply chain costs surging as the facility accounts for approximately 6% of global lithium output. The battery maker confirmed the mine closure occurred as a result of an expired permit to conduct mining operations.
