German media has been rife with speculation that Volkswagen Group is preparing for a corporate restructuring. Handelsblatt recently reported that company Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn outlined a new Group structure to the supervisory board at a meeting on 12 June. According to reports, four holding companies will be established: one for the mass market car brands, one for trucks and two for the premium brands. The aim of such a decentralised system is to improve profitability.
