New Toyota technology to improve hybrid efficiency

Toyota is currently testing new SiC power semiconductors. The OEM is confident that the new technology will significantly improve the efficiency of hybrid vehicles

Conventional power semiconductors are guilty of emitting around 20% of total electrical losses within vehicles. Consequently, Toyota believes that with its new silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor technology, improvements in the efficiency of hybrid and electric powertrains could be substantial.
