On June 1, the Dräxlmaier Group officially took over the site of a logistics service provider in Zwickau. With this move, the production and in-sequence delivery of Dräxlmaier wiring harnesses to the production lines of the Volkswagen automobile plant in Zwickau will come from a single source. As part of the expansion, the number of Dräxlmaier Group employees in Zwickau will also increase. The automobile supplier is primarily looking for personnel in the areas of IT and maintenance.

“Adapting the site to the processes and systems of the Dräxlmaier Group lasted more than a year, and presented us with some major challenges. After all, we had to assure delivery to VW Saxony at all times,” said Klaus-Dieter Nagel, technical plant manager for the Dräxlmaier Group in Zwickau.

Dräxlmaier needed to undertake testing, modifications and renovations on machines, processes and systems, primarily during non-operating periods such as weekends or holidays, Nagel explained. A new warehouse system was implemented, conveyor technology upgraded, employee training done and a new IT infrastructure implemented as part of this.

“Our new logistics center in Zwickau is now ready for the future, and thanks to a very motivated and flexible team, we were able to officially take over deliveries punctually on June 1,” said project leader Monika Meier-Scheer, who supervised the changeover of the logistics site for the Dräxlmaier Group.

From this point forward, modern Dräxlmaier wiring harness systems, which assure energy and information supply in automobiles, will be delivered from the Dräxlmaier Group itself to the VW automobile plant in Zwickau-Mosel.

The new Dräxlmaier Group logistics site, located in the Zwickau district of Crossen, is a good fit in the strategy of the automotive supplier for another reason. Since it is just 6 kilometers (3.5 miles) from the VW site, the delivery center assures the supplier’s goal of short transport distances, thereby protecting the environment.

The new, ultramodern Dräxlmaier Group distribution site is located at Rudolf-Ehrlich-Strasse 2 in Zwickau, and covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters (32,000 square feet). A large part of that is occupied by the fully automatic warehouse. The construction of a second truck delivery bay and the expansion of one warehouse also changed the outside of the building somewhat. There is also sufficient space for offices, which house the administration and site management functions.
