The 21st Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai 2025, officially kicked off. Under the theme of “Innovate to New Horizons,” Nio showcased 11 models and 12 Full Stack technologies from its three brands—Nio, Onvo, and firefly. Nearly 350 Chinese and international reporters attended the press conference at the Nio stand.
At the press conference, William Li, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Nio, said, “This is the first time the three brands—Nio, Onvo, and firefly—are collectively attending the auto show. We are very grateful for the strong support from Nio and Onvo user volunteers. In 2025, Nio is ushering in a year of technological harvest and is rapidly moving into a new product cycle, planning to launch nine models under its three brands. There will be a major new model for every quarter. On display at the Nio stand, are the achievements of Nio’s decade of technological innovation, culminating in the ET9 which represents the latest breakthroughs in global smart electric vehicles.”
According to William Li, smart driving chips, operating systems, and smart chassis are the three major components of smart electric vehicles all developed in-house, defining the standards of experience and safety of smart electric vehicles. Supported by its technological research and development achievements, Nio is rapidly entering a new product cycle.
As the culmination of Nio’s decade of technological innovation, the Smart Electric Executive Flagship ET9 led the brand’s lineup at the Nio stand. During this year’s auto show, visitors can interact with and experience the SkyRide Full Active Suspension and steer-by-wire system at the Nio stand. They can also enjoy the “SkyRide Dance” performance of the ET9. Since the delivery of the ET9 on March 29, it has been recognized by many innovation leaders.
The ET9 also marks the beginning of a harvest year for Nio products. William Li announced at the press conference that the new ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 will be launched in the second quarter of this year. The third-generation ES8 will be released in the second half of the year. The Smart Large-Space Flagship SUV Onvo L90 also made its debut at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show at the ONVO stand and is expected to be delivered in the third quarter. Onvo’s third model, the L80, will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
Nio’s third brand firefly has launched its namesake model, a small smart electric high-end car, was launched on April 19 and will start deliveries on April 29. Today, firefly made its auto show debut on the international stage alongside Nio models. William Li announced at the press conference that firefly will gradually enter overseas markets covering 16 countries, allowing more global users to experience the charm of the new era of small smart electric high-end cars. This year, Nio will adopt more efficient and flexible approaches to achieve its goal of entering 25 countries and regions.
Behind the multiple new products from the three brands, Nio has officially entered a year of significant technological harvest. Nio set up a core technology exhibition area at this year’s stand, showcasing its 12 Full Stack technologies, proprietary smart driving chip Shenji NX9031, SkyRide Full Active Suspension, steer-by-wire system, 900V high-performance Electric Drive System, and other mass-produced core technologies. At the press conference, William Li showcased two samples of Nio’s proprietary automotive-grade smart driving chip, Shenji NX9031, to the media. Two of the chips have been integrated into every ET9. William Li stated that the Shenji chip will also be equipped in the new ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 models, providing the computational power to support the continuous upgrade of assisted and intelligent driving features.
At this year’s auto show, the Nio stand once again features a Nio House on-site. With its signature Nio Café and Nio Radio, and the user area on the second floor, the Nio House is staffed by more than 260 user volunteers, to help more visitors learn about Nio and enrich their exhibition experience.
Nio’s original lifestyle brand, Nio Life, has also brought new products to this year’s auto show. The BLUE SKY LAB Upcycling Project, which uses leftover materials from car manufacturing as the core material, officially debuted at the Nio stand. It also showcases dozens of production leftover materials and eco-friendly fabrics that BLUE SKY LAB and its partners have used or plan to use, building a more sustainable future through brand collaboration and crossover products. At this year’s auto show, Nio Life, firefly life, and Onvo Life made their first joint appearance, presenting three distinct value propositions: sustainable living, family happiness, and freedom to glow. In addition, seeds, Nio’s knowledge-sharing platform, continues its “Dialogue with the Future” series, livestreamed onsite, inviting eight technology experts and ET9 users to hold four roundtable discussions on the core technological innovations of the ET9 on April 23 and 24.
