McLaren Automotive has shown the most luxurious and refined model to-date at the 2016 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition with the Asian premiere of the 570GT. The latest model was unveiled by McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Officer Mike Flewitt, alongside a specially commissioned example of the Sports Series with a 570S Coupe by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), while the Super Series was represented by a 650S Spider as McLaren made its second appearance at the event.
The 570GT is the second of three bodystyles which will eventually complete the Sports Series, introducing race-derived technologies and supercar performance to the sports car market in a package which is very much a pure McLaren. The 570GT is fitted with the McLaren-developed 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 M838TE engine which debuted in the 570S Coupé. Power and torque remain at 570PS (562bhp) and 600 Nm (443lb ft) and power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed seamless-shift transmission with adjustment through Normal, Sport and Track settings to produce one of the most rewarding and engaging driving experiences in the sports car class.
A standard fixed glass Panoramic Roof provides a bright, open cabin running through to the large rear glass hatch creating the most luxurious and relaxing McLaren driving environment. As seen on the other models in the Sports Series, levels of craftsmanship throughout the interior of the 570GT are of the highest level, upholstered and specified with quality materials and the latest technologies throughout.
Commenting on the reveal, Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive of McLaren Automotive explained: ‘With the 570GT, the McLaren Sports Series now becomes a family and I am proud to introduce this most refined and road-biased McLaren to-date to the Chinese market. It is designed with a focus on day-to-day usability and long distance comfort, offering increased levels of practicality and comfort, while remaining a true McLaren.’
Following the unveil of the 570GT, details of the Track22 business plan were presented to the Chinese audience, outlining the next six years for McLaren Automotive through to 2022. Mike Flewitt explained: ‘Since its inception, McLaren Automotive has launched world-class products and this has been made possible by continuous investment in our future. At the heart of the Business Plan is a commitment to its industry-leading 20-25 percent of turnover invested in Research and Development for future products and technology. Over the six-year Business Plan period, this represents an investment of £1 billion (approximately 10 billion RMB) and will lead to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives. Our next hybrid vehicle will launch towards the latter part of our six year plan, and we will see at least 50 percent featuring hybrid technology by 2022.’
He continued: ‘The Chinese market is very important for McLaren. We are on target to double our 2015 sales this year, and aim to double that number again by 2022. That would mean China represents nearly 15 percent of the global sales volume.’
